Hey, it's Matt Frederick from iHeart

0:03

Podcasts, host of stuff they don't

0:05

want you to know. I have something new

0:07

to share with you from Tenderfoot TV and the

0:09

team behind Atlanta Monster. It's

0:11

a new podcast called Flashpoint.

0:14

Some of you may remember where you were on July

0:17

twenty seventh, nineteen ninety six,

0:19

when a domestic terrorist bombed the Summer

0:21

Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia.

0:24

While the FBI and the media fixated

0:26

on the wrong man, the real bomber

0:29

was planning his next targets. A

0:31

serial bomber, a manhunt, and

0:34

the victims left to pick up the pieces.

0:37

This is Flashpoint. Check

0:39

out this trailer.

0:45

Welcome to Atlanta's Olympic Stadiums

0:47

of the opening ceremony of these sins he on

0:50

Olympic Games.

0:51

Back in ninety six, Atlanta was

0:53

booming with excitement around hosting the Olympic

0:56

Games for the first

0:58

time. Our said he was stepping in the center

1:00

stage. What no one could have

1:02

predicted is that it would be remembered

1:04

for something else. The bomb

1:07

har you

1:09

have thirty minutes. Two

1:15

people died that night, more than one

1:17

hundred injured, and the bombings

1:20

they were far from over.

1:21

The two bombs an hour apart that rock an abortion

1:24

counding in Atlanta.

1:25

I sat down just for a second and noticed

1:28

a bright flash and then a

1:30

tremendous blast.

1:32

Two more bombers, this time at an

1:34

Atlanta nightclub catering to lesbians.

1:37

I saw as soon as I turned the corner, basically

1:39

someone bleeding out.

1:40

There was really little doubt that

1:43

we were dealing with the serial bomber. The

1:45

FBI would lead a five year manhunt in

1:47

search of a fugitive willing to kill for a cause.

1:50

But this story isn't his story. It's

1:53

a human story, one that I've

1:55

become entangled with, and

1:57

it turns out I'm not

1:59

the only one.

2:02

It kind of gave me a feeling of

2:05

pending doom so many sleepless

2:07

nights. I don't think I felt anything at

2:09

the time, or I didn't let myself

2:12

think about it.

2:13

It didn't feel real.

2:14

The death threats that we subsequently received

2:16

for years threatened the lives of our kids.

2:19

These chaotic events tied our lives together

2:21

in ways of no one expected, jeopardizing

2:23

the ground beneath our feet and forcing

2:26

us to explore the gray areas between right and

2:28

wrong. Life and death. Our

2:30

once ordinary lives changed

2:33

forever. From

2:35

Tenderfoot TV and iHeart Podcasts,

2:38

I'm Cola Cassio and this

2:41

is flashpoint.

2:42

Why are you so alive?

2:44
