Good Morning, the weather in Columbus is going to be mild and cool for the next few days with a high around 55 degrees. The state of Ohio will pay $17.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by a 21-year-old man who suffered a spinal cord injury when state prison guards tackled, handcuffed and dropped him at Chillicothe Correctional Institution, the man's attorney said Monday. Seth Fletcher is now paralyzed from the chest down. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction declined to comment on the lawsuit, saying details were still being finalized. On April 2, 2020, Fletcher was knocked to the ground and complained that he couldn't feel or move his legs. Guards failed to take his complaint seriously and dropped him multiple times after the initial injury. When he was unable to get himself a drink of water, guards poured water into his mouth and up his nose, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol report. The city of Columbus plans to spend $1.525 million to buy 78 acres along a tributary of Big Walnut Creek just west of Eastland Mall for park land, an area of the city that has been wanting for park space for years. "There is a demand and a high need for a park in this area," said Brad Westall, planning manager for the city's Department of Recreation and Parks. "It's one of the most underserved communities for parkland." A $1 million grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission will pay for most of the cost of the property acquisition. Eligible voters are set to head to the polls Tuesday to decide the outcome of dozens of local races and issues in Greater Columbus. Election Day polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., following a month of early in-person and mail-in balloting. A total of 865,330 Franklin County residents were registered to participate in this year’s general election, according to Aaron Sellers, spokesman for the county elections board. Through Sunday, more than 31,000 voters had cast early ballots, including 14,133 who submitted their picks in person at the Franklin County Board of Elections’ early voting site and another 17,003 who returned absentee ballots by mail. thank you for listening and have a great day.check out our podcasts on news, sports and more.
