Syphilis is reaching levels not seen in the US in more than twenty years. Increased rates in women are triggering a surge in syphilis among newborn babies.

Dr. Gail Bolan is the Director of CDC’s Division of STD Prevention at the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. Her research focus and interests are on diseases that are of concern to public health.
